Description

This unit comprises two coaching and sports performance-orientated modules; badminton and soccer. Both modules will focus on the development of practical skills and theoretical concepts that are required by the exercise and sports scientist to enhance coaching and athletic performance.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Create and deliver coaching sessions to improve soccer and badminton skills for athletes of different ages.
  2. Apply exercise and sports science knowledge to improve athlete performance in soccer and badminton and prevent injury.
  3. Apply the rules, tactics and strategies to improve performance in soccer and badminton.
  4. Integrate current coaching methods and principles to enhance learning.
  5. Demonstrate practical skills to participate in competitive soccer and badminton.

Unit Content

  1. Principles and practices of exercise and sports science to develop soccer and badminton performance.
  2. Rules, tactics and strategies required for competitive soccer and badminton.
  3. Biomechanical principles related to soccer and badminton performance and injury prevention.
  4. Principles and practices of coaching applied to soccer and badminton performance.
  5. Player tracking and energy demands during match play.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Students please note: The marks and grades received by students on assessments may be subject to further moderation. All marks and grades are to be considered provisional until endorsed by the relevant Board of Examiners.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit plan may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.
