This unit helps students develop the critical thinking and writing skills needed for university through exploring contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander popular culture and creative works. Students examine novels, comics, and film through Indigenous Futurism, learning to analyse creative works and express their ideas clearly. The unit introduces key concepts like sovereignty, identity, and representation, opening pathways to courses in media, literature, Visual/performing arts, and social sciences.
Must be enrolled in course C28 University Preparation Course. Must be enrolled in or have passed UPU0002.
On completion of this unit students should be able to:
Students will engage in learning experiences via ECU’s LMS as well as additional ECU learning technologies
This unit will be dealing with materials and resources produced by Indigenous peoples. It will be taught as a collaboration between Academic Pathway Programs and Kurongkurl Katitjin Centre so there will be access to culturally appropriate materials and engagement with Aboriginal staff. Students will be working in an interactive and dynamic learning environment by using a seminar format and a focus on small group work. Generic skill development will include critical and creative thinking, cross cultural competency and reflexivity, global perspectives and enhancing digital literacy.
