Politics and International Relations Major

Effective from 01-JAN-2026 : Code MAAALW

The Politics and International Relations major provides students with an understanding of political structures, power relations, governance frameworks, and key political ideologies. It begins with the Australian system before introducing students to global political systems and international relations, and then to major ideologies shaping nation states. The final three units investigate contemporary challenges to these governance structures and their philosophical foundations.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply broad knowledge of politics to research, community, and professional challenges.
  2. Think critically to analyse, evaluate, and use knowledge from the discipline of Politics to make well-reasoned judgements.

  4. Use digital literacy skills to access, evaluate, and use relevant information from multiple sources to research problems and to engage with established and emerging technologies ethically and intelligently.
