Unit Set Information

Nutrition Major

Effective from 01-JAN-2019 : Code MAAAFK

This major provides the student with foundational knowledge so that they can work in the community in health promotional roles. Students who wish to be eligible for entry to postgraduate courses in Nutrition and Dietetics, or who wish to work as a Community Nutritionist, should include - as well as the Nutrition major units - supporting units in biochemistry and human physiology. These additional supporting science units should be selected in consultation with the coordinator of Nutrition.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply broad human nutrition knowledge to a range of theoretical and practical health and nutrition science situations.
  2. Communicate health and nutrition science knowledge and uphold values in a range of community and professional contexts.

  5. Think creatively to anticipate challenges and generate health and nutrition science solutions.
  6. Think critically to analyse, interpret and conceptualise complex health and nutrition problems.
  7. Use digital technologies, numeracy and food literacies to access, evaluate and synthesise relevant information from multiple sources.
  8. Work collaboratively and demonstrate initiative to implement social, sustainable and ethical nutritional and health science values.

Membership

Students can apply for membership with Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA). Enrolled students and graduates can apply for membership of the Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA). Graduates, who complete this nutrition major within a science degree, are eligible to apply to the Nutrition Society of Australia's Register of Nutritionists.
