Media and Cultural Studies Major

This major prepares students for future success in traversing our media-driven environment. Media and Cultural studies is an innovative major in its approach to examining the history and politics of everyday culture in relation to the impact of all forms of media in society, both nationally and globally. Studying this major equips students with the ability to ask meaningful questions and engage in critical commentary about issues such as the power and influence of traditional media, the complexities and contradictions of social media and the impact of popular culture. It provides critical insights into the media and the skills to develop cultural commentary, theoretical engagement alongside concerns for social justice and social impact. By studying any of the topics covered in the major, students develop a set of critical thinking and analytical skills along with an ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
