Photomedia Major

Effective from 01-JAN-2022 : Code MAAAJU

The Photomedia major encourages critical and creative thinking in the application of image production pertinent to contemporary photographic practice. Students investigate historical and analytical perspectives in photography and explore original visual strategies and aesthetic values to communicate their ideas. Studying photographic language, technologies and techniques prepares students for a diverse range of current practices employing photomedia including contemporary art, advertising, fashion, illustration, editorial, photojournalism and videography. Knowledge acquired in seminars, workshops and assignment production and exhibition is suited to a variety of contexts and applications empowering students to create work related to their own personal and professional aspirations. Applicants to the Photomedia major who do not meet the standard course entry requirements can be considered through the Creative Arts Portfolio Entry pathway as per https://www.ecu.edu.au/future-students/course-entry/creative-arts-portfolio-entry

Special Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to : - achieve Year 12 English General minimum grade of A; - successfully complete a minimum of 1 ATAR course; - successfully complete a minimum of 3 General courses with at least one course in an area related to the course/major selected; and - have discipline specific portfolio and attend an interview to assess applicant potential to succeed in the selected course/major. Note: WACE is a minimum requirement for all Year 12 School Leavers.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Think critically to analyse, interpret and conceptualise/synthesise complex Photomedia knowledge/problems.
  2. Think creatively to anticipate challenges and generate Photomedia solutions/responses.
  3. Use digital technologies and Photomedia related literacy to access, evaluate and synthesise relevant information from multiple sources.
  4. Communicate Photomedia knowledge and ideas clearly, coherently and with independence.
  5. Demonstrate a global outlook with respect for cultural diversity, including Indigenous cultural competence.
