4. Applying for Credit & Recognition of Prior Learning

If you've applied for a course and have previous study or professional experience, you may be eligible for Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning, or CRPL.

CRPL recognises any prior formal learning, e.g. diplomas or degrees, and compares units studied in that learning with proposed ECU units. It also assesses your prior work experience and professional development or other training undertaken while employed.

Important

If you think you might be eligible, apply for CRPL before you enrol in your course units.

How do I apply for Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning?

You'll need to complete a form online, specifying upfront whether your application is a claim for recognition of formal learning, e.g. a degree or diploma, or other prior learning achieved outside the formal education and training system.

What does
that mean?
Here's a quick guide to some of the things we mention during the Get Started stage.
  • If you've applied for a course and have previous formal learning, e.g. a diploma or a degree, or have prior work experience and professional development or other training while employed, you may be eligible for Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning, or CRPL.

CRPL compares units studied in that learning with proposed ECU units. It can allow you to reduce the number of units you need to study to be awarded your ECU qualification.

  • Your Student Portal is your personal homepage on the ECU website, allowing you to access Canvas, SIMO, web mail, the library, a list of your enrolled units and other university information and services.

Select Student/Staff Portal from the ECU Homepage, then login using your ECU login ID and password.

Your login ID is the start of your email address before @our.ecu.edu.au. Your student number is not your login ID.
