ECU staff and alumni awarded King's Birthday Honours

The King's Birthday Honours List recognises and celebrates outstanding Australians and their contributions to a range of fields. There were 1,192 recipients this year, twenty-one of them Edith Cowan University (ECU)-affiliated alumni and staff.

The King's Birthday Honours List recognises and celebrates outstanding Australians and their contributions to a range of fields.

There were 1,192 recipients this year, twenty-one of them Edith Cowan University (ECU)-affiliated alumni and staff.

Congratulations to the following:

Irene Stainton AO received an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the Indigenous community through cultural heritage leadership, and through health and social welfare organisations. She is a former ECU Lecturer.

Margaret Anne Crowley AM received a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to community health, and to people with low vision. She was the Associate Professor and Director of Education Policy and Administrative Studies from 1986 to 1993.

Pia Turcinov AM received a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to technology and innovation, and to women in STEM. She has been a Council Member of the Quality Audit Committee at ECU since April 2022.

Benjamin Charles Elton AM received a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the entertainment industry as a comedian, actor, writer and director. He received an Honorary Award, Doctor of Arts in 2016.

Emma Matthews AM received a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the performing arts, particularly opera. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Performance) in 1993 and is currently a Senior Lecturer and the Head of Classical Voice and Opera Studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

Caroline Wood AM received a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to literature as a publisher, and to the community through a range of roles. She graduated with a Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) in 1984.

Marion Gathercole OAM received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community of Subiaco. She graduated with a Bachelor of Education in 1985.

Norbert Fandry OAM received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to secondary education. He graduated with a Teachers Certificate in 1970.

John De'Laney OAM received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to community health. He graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in 1996 and Master of Human Resource Management in 2011.

Mark Edward Chambers OAM received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to public administration in Western Australia. He graduated with a Diploma of Teaching (Primary) in 1976.

Natalie Palmer APM received an Australian Police Medal. She graduated with a Graduate Certificate of Education in 2004.

Dale Robinson APM received an Australian Police Medal. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Justice Studies) in 2000.

Curtis Roe APM received an Australian Police Medal. He graduated with a Graduate Certificate of Human Resource Management in 2015.

David Tunnard ASM received an Ambulance Service Medal. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) in 2012.

Jillian Smith ASM received an Ambulance Service Medal. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) in 2011.

Mark McDonald ASM received an Ambulance Service Medal. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) in 2014.

Mark Hill ASM received an Ambulance Service Medal. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) in 2010 and Graduate Diploma of Paramedical Science in 2017.

Conrad Fairhead ASM received an Ambulance Service Medal. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) in 2017.

Rebecca Boughton ASM received an Ambulance Service Medal. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) in 2013.

Andrew BLANE ASM received an Ambulance Service Medal. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) in 2009.

Wendy Duguid ACM received an Australian Corrections Medal. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Justice Studies) in 1994.
