Edith Cowan University (ECU) students pursuing careers in professional sport were given a glimpse into their potential futures last week, as part of the University's thriving partnership with the West Coast Eagles.
ECU's annual Eagles in the Nest event saw more than 100 students taken on a tour of the Australian Football League (AFL) club's state-of-the-art headquarters in Lathlain.
Along the way, students heard from a range of inspiring speakers, who gave a genuine insight into what it's like to work within a professional sporting organisation.
Students also met with several current Eagles employees, including Tim Harris – an ECU graduate who has secured employment as Consumer Growth Coordinator at the AFL club.
Last week's Eagles in the Nest event catered to ECU students enrolled in specific, industry-related degrees, such as Exercise & Sports Science, Journalism and Broadcast Media, Sport Business, Event Management, Marketing Advertising and Public Relations and Communications, as well as students studying in the West Coast Eagles and ECU Diploma in Sport Business partnership program.
The enthusiastic flock of students swept through the halls of West Coast's headquarters with wide eyes and an appetite to learn - and were equally eager to make valuable connections with the staff members who facilitated this year's Eagles in the Nest activities.
Students asked engaging, thoughtful questions to every club representative who spoke throughout the day, showing a collective understanding of the genuine value of their experience at the Eagles' base.
ECU's annual Eagles in the Nest event occurs as part of a 10-year partnership established between the University and the AFL club in 2018.
