Executive Dean, School of Business and Law (SBL), Professor Maryam Omari has been inducted into the City of Joondalup Walk of Fame.
Located in the Joondalup City Centre, the Walk of Fame recognises members of the Joondalup community who have achieved success at an elite level. It seeks to inspire and showcase role models for residents, while creating a record of community champions in a public and central site within the Joondalup City Centre.
"Joondalup is a City where community members, no matter what area of interest, are encouraged to follow their dreams," Joondalup Mayor Daniel Kingston said.
"Since our earliest days, we have been home to many high-achieving members of the community who have made significant impacts at a local, national or international level."
The Walk of Fame recognises outstanding achievements in the categories of sport, business and community.
Professor Omari was selected for the Joondalup Walk of Fame in recognition of her outstanding contribution to education and community leadership within the City of Joondalup. Having served at Edith Cowan University's Joondalup campus for over 25 years, Maryam is the first female and longest-serving Executive Dean of the School of Business and Law.
Under her leadership, the School became ECU's largest, attracting thousands of students and staff to Joondalup and significantly enhancing the City's profile as a hub for higher education.
Her achievements include driving cultural and academic renewal, fostering international engagement, and strengthening community connections.
ECU senior lecturer Dr Erwin Losekoot, who nominated Professor Omari for the honour, said it was an appropriate time to recognise her 25-year contribution to a vibrant Joondalup.
"From the moment I arrived at ECU, I was impressed with her attention to detail and her knowledge of and care for her staff - no-one can be in any doubt that she regards us all as her extended family!"
The Walk of Fame recognises outstanding achievements in the categories of sport, business and community.
"It's a tremendous honour to be recognised in this way by the City of Joondalup, a place that has been home to my work, my community, and my heart for over 25 years. I feel incredibly privileged to see my name on Joondalup's Walk of Fame and to be written into the story of a City that shares my belief in the power of education, the importance of diversity, and the value of investing in people," Professor Omari said.
"If my journey can inspire others, especially young women and girls, to lead with integrity, pursue education or leadership, and serve their communities with purpose, then that is the most meaningful recognition I could ever receive."
