Edith Cowan University (ECU) Lecturer and Coordinator of Secondary and Instrumental Music Education, Dr Jason Goopy has been selected to attend the 36th World Conference of the International Society for Music Education (ISME).

Announced as a winner of Business Events Perth's 2023 Aspire Award, Dr Goopy is one of eleven outstanding Western Australian researchers who will receive travel grants to showcase their expertise and network with leading researchers at an international conference.

Dr Goopy said it is an honour to be a recipient of the prestigious award.

"Not only is it wonderful recognition of my work, but also demonstrates the value of music education in the broader community in WA." He said.

Dr Goopy's research aims to uncover how music education can positively transform lives by examining the nexus between music, education, and psychology using arts-based and mixed-methods.

He has devoted his career to sharing the benefits of music and music education with others, initially as a school music teacher and now as a leader in music education research.

Business Events Perth CEO, Gareth Martin said Business Events Perth proudly recognises some of Western Australia's brightest minds who will showcase the States leading capabilities to the world.

"The recipients of the 2023 Aspire Awards represent the diversity of Western Australia's research and entrepreneurial strengths and exemplify the innovation that Western Australia is renowned for,"

"Providing this opportunity for knowledge exchange allows some of Western Australia's exceptional researchers, innovators and professionals to connect with other like-minded, global leaders in their field.

"As Australia’s western gateway to the world, meeting face-to-face facilitates positive collaboration and networking opportunities putting Western Australia on the map." Mr Martin said.

Dr Goopy will attend the 36th World Conference presented by ISME, the premiere international organisation for music education affiliated to the International Music Council and UNESCO.

"I aim to disseminate findings of my ECU funded research projects and support my HDR students in their presentations," Dr Goopy said.

"I will also represent the Australian Society for Music Education as President, and promote ECU as the host of the Asia-Pacific Symposium for Music Education Research in 2025."
