ECU appoints new Chief Information Officer

Edith Cowan University (ECU) has appointed Mike Laytham as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO) following an extensive national search.

Mr Laytham has held the role in an interim capacity since January and brings more than 20 years of experience leading technology and operations across diverse sectors, including financial services, pharmaceuticals, mining, and manufacturing. His career includes senior technology leadership positions at Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), Bankwest, and BHP.

A highly respected technology executive, Mr Laytham is recognised for delivering complex digital transformations, streamlining enterprise systems, and building secure, agile technology platforms. His appointment reflects ECU's commitment to enhancing its digital capabilities in support of the University's strategic vision.

As CIO, Mr Laytham will lead ECU's information technology portfolio and drive the delivery of digital services that enable innovation, improve user experience, and support excellence in teaching, research, and operations.

Under his leadership, ECU will advance its digital strategy with a strong focus on equitable access, AI-driven innovation, and the continued development of a secure, future-ready learning environment.
