Thousands of students have stepped through the doors of Edith Cowan University's (ECU) landmark new City Campus this week, marking the start of Orientation in the heart of Perth.

The state-of-the-art campus, now home to the School of Business and Law, the School of Arts and Humanities, the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), technology and cyber security programs from the School of Science, and Kurongkurl Katitjin, welcomed new and returning students as they prepare for classes to begin later this month, ushering in a new era of teaching, learning and creativity in the city centre.

The 11-super-level campus will host nearly 8,500 students and staff from the first semester.

ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Clare Pollock said the opening marked a significant milestone for the university and the State.

"This is a historic moment not only for ECU, but for Perth and Western Australia.

"Perth has joined the ranks of the greatest cities in the world with the first comprehensive, inner-city university campus."

The campus features specialist teaching facilities for business, law, creative arts and technology, along with dedicated screen and media production studios. Extensive student support and wellbeing services are integrated throughout the building.

Eight public performance venues will host more than 300 performances each year, strengthening links between the university and the wider community.

A defining feature is the main foyer's large-scale indoor LED display, one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The screen delivers a curated program of immersive digital content and is paired with a media façade spanning two sides of the building, creating a year-round public canvas.

"ECU City campus is a place of connection. It brings students, industry, culture, and community together in the heart of our city, creating exciting opportunities to learn from one another and to shape the future side by side," Professor Pollock said.

"From the talented creative arts students to the business, law, performance, and technology graduates - this campus is built for you to learn, engage, and create as you embark on your future careers."

WA Premier Roger Cook said the project, which was jointly funded by the Federal Government, the Western Australian Government, and ECU, reflects the State Government's focus on education and economic growth.

"This generational development will do more than just make skilling, upskilling, and reskilling more accessible to the people of WA.

"It will help bring together Northbridge and Perth's CBD with our growing public transport network at its core, helping to foster a vibrant and creative economy in the heart of our city.
