The Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care the Hon. Mark Butler has announced the establishment of a new community health service development in Yanchep to address the critical need for comprehensive health services in the fast-growing region.

"The joint partnership between the Australian Government, the Western Australian State Government and Edith Cowan University (ECU) has delivered a crucial health service to the Yanchep community."

"The ECU Health Centre Yanchep will provide integrated, multidisciplinary health services for the community, including much-needed access to GPs, nursing, and allied health, with a range of free and low-cost community health and wellbeing programs,” said Minister Butler.

Western Australia's Minister for Health and Mental Health the Hon. Amber Jade Sanderson outlined that the Centre would offer a comprehensive range of health services in a 'one-stop shop' for patients and families.

"This growth corridor in our northern region is now one of the fastest-growing urban corridors in Australia and one of the most underserviced in terms of access to health and mental health services," Minister Sanderson said.

"The new Centre aims to provide integrated, multidisciplinary health services to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the rapidly growing Yanchep community, while improving health outcomes through preventative and self-management approaches,” said Minister Sanderson.

"The ECU Health Centre Yanchep will include two co-located, integrated, multidisciplinary health facilities, providing services which meet the current and future health needs of the rapidly growing Yanchep and surrounding communities, while improving health and wellbeing outcomes.

“Importantly, the community facility will be located within walking distance of the Yanchep Central Shopping Centre and be serviced by Transperth bus routes."

The ECU Health Centre Yanchep is funded jointly by Edith Cowan University (ECU), the Australian Government, and the Western Australian State Government and is anticipated to commence providing services in 2024, with The West Centre anticipated to open in 2026.

Edith Cowan University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Regional Futures) Professor Cobie Rudd said that the ECU Health Centre Yanchep facilities will be the culmination of many years of advocacy with local, State, and Federal governments, and private partners.

Professor Rudd explained that the University was proud to announce that the new facilities for the region will also create new research, clinical training, and work-integrated learning opportunities for ECU counselling, health, paramedicine, nursing, psychology, and other students.

"Our university is exceptionally pleased to be able to bring these important, high quality and much-needed health services to Yanchep and the far northern metropolitan area," said Professor Rudd.

"This project builds on ECU’s years of experience in delivering integrated, community-based, primary healthcare at the ECU Health Centre Wanneroo, a successful model for partnering with local government, health providers, and community stakeholders to deliver high-quality, affordable, accessible care to previously underserviced communities.”

ECU's Executive Dean, School of Medical and Health Sciences Professor Moira Sim said the new Centre will also provide critical clinical training and research opportunities for ECU students and staff, contributing to the development of the future health workforce for our State and our nation. Federal Member for Pearce, Tracey Roberts MP said the centre is positive news.

"The ECU Health Centre Yanchep will be welcomed by the community in Yanchep and Two Rocks in our fast-growing outer metropolitan suburbs."

"I have been advocating for this important health facility for many years, alongside federal, state and local governments."

"The Centre will improve access to high quality healthcare that is affordable and accessible and will meet current and future healthcare needs."

The ECU Health Centre Yanchep is jointly funded by the Australian Government, the Western Australian State Government, and Edith Cowan University. ECU gratefully acknowledges their financial contributions to the project.
