Edith Cowan University (ECU) Professor Margaret Jones GAICD has been appointed to a prestigious council of experts from different sectors, backgrounds, and expertise, to implement the WA Government's 10-Year Science and Technology Plan.
The plan was released in December 2024. The newly formed council is tasked with the critical role of advising the government on long-term priorities and the future growth of the sector. This includes providing insight into future cross-disciplinary collaborations and recommendations of key opportunities and challenges.
The council consists of highly experienced and dynamic leaders in their fields, and the application to the council was highly competitive, with over 114 applications from WA's top leaders.
Professor Jones has been the Director of Research Services at ECU for over a decade and is recognised as a highly successful international medical researcher with over 70 journal articles before her transition into university governance and research administration.
Professor Jones is known for her passion for research engagement and impact, and her expertise on university governance and leadership is widely recognised.
"I am honoured by this opportunity to serve the great state of Western Australia and to collaborate with my esteemed colleagues on leading the way forward for science and technology in the future," Professor Jones said.
"Together we have a unique chance to shape the future, ensuring that our state continues to be a leader in science, technology and innovation for generations to come."
