Edith Cowan University (ECU) has welcomed internationally recognised corporate affairs and communications executive Lorie Helliwell as Vice-President (Engagement).
Ms Helliwell joins ECU after a distinguished career spanning Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe, where she has advised senior leaders, shaped organisational reputation and led engagement through major periods of transformation across the corporate, government and consulting sectors.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Clare Pollock said Ms Helliwell's appointment brings exceptional experience and perspective to the University's executive team.
"Lorie has built an impressive career advising leaders and organisations through complex challenges, major transformation programs and periods of significant growth," Professor Pollock said.
As ECU continues to grow its impact and influence internationally, those qualities will be incredibly valuable. Success today is built on strong relationships, trust and connection, and Lorie has spent her career helping organisations build exactly that.
"Just as importantly, she's a values-driven leader who understands the importance of purpose and community. I'm delighted to welcome her to ECU."
Before joining ECU, Ms Helliwell served as Head of Group Communications at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), where she led strategic communications and advised Commissioners and the CEO. She previously held senior leadership positions with Westpac and Commonwealth Bank, leading communications and engagement through major transformation, governance and culture programs.
Earlier in her career, Ms Helliwell led Ogilvy Impact in Australia and held senior communications and corporate affairs roles with British Telecommunications, working across international markets and advising some of the world's largest organisations.
Ms Helliwell said ECU's bold vision and commitment to creating meaningful impact attracted her to the role.
"ECU has a clear sense of purpose and willingness to challenge convention," Ms Helliwell said.
"There is an energy across the University that comes from people genuinely wanting to make a difference, whether that's through education, research, industry partnerships or community engagement.
"ECU has built a reputation for doing things differently and backing ambitious ideas with action. That's something I found incredibly compelling and I am so thrilled to now be a part of it.
"I'm excited to join this university at such an important time in its journey and to help strengthen the connections and partnerships that will support its future success."
