Edith Cowan University (ECU) has appointed Professor Cobie Rudd to the new portfolio of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Regional Futures) and Managing Director of the South West Campus.

ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve Chapman CBE welcomed Professor Rudd to the new roles.

“Cobie brings a wealth of experience to her new roles including a solid track record in securing significant external investment to boost capacity in teaching and research, and achieving tangible impact from political and industry engagement,” he said.

Professor Rudd has previously been a Federal Government Policy Advisor, a State Government senior executive for policy and planning (including rural health), a private sector CEO, an Australian Government National Teaching Fellow, and has an extensive background in attracting funding for, and leading, capacity building and innovation in higher education. She is also a Registered Nurse.

Professor Rudd said she was honoured to assume a regional WA focus and particularly to be working with the South West Campus community.

“I look forward to building on ECU’s accomplishments in the Regions, including the South West, and rural, regional and remote Western Australia more broadly,” Professor Rudd said.

Professor Rudd will continue to have oversight of professional accreditation for all ECU courses. She will also retain responsibility for leading ECU’s Athena SWAN initiative to create a gender inclusive workplace.

She will officially commence her new portfolio on 1 July 2021. She will take over leadership of the South West Campus when the current Dean of the South West Campus, Ms Lyn Farrell, retires in October.

Professor Chapman thanked Ms Farrell for her many contributions to ECU.

“Lyn has also been instrumental in building industry engagement and stakeholder relationships throughout the South West. Her significant contributions are recognised internally and externally, including the recent recognition of ECU’s Regional Learning Hub in the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT),” he said.
