Australian businesses are enduring a skills crisis that rates as the second worst across the developed world. Amongst the industries in desperate need of skilled professionals are those in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

STEM job positions are projected to grow almost 13 per cent in the next five years, twice as fast as non-STEM occupations (6.2 per cent), according to Australian Industry and Skills Committee figures.

Secure your future in Cyber Security

STEM courses at ECU are developed in consultation with industry and taught by lecturers and tutors with practical experience in their field.

Cyber Security student Soumita Kale said the networking opportunities available at ECU have kick-started her career.

"I have been able to get involved with both attending and running a variety of different workshops to spread knowledge about cyber security concepts and to learn what it’s like to work in the industry."

ECU has been a fantastic foundation for me in the workforce.

In Australia alone, it is estimated 17,000 additional cyber security workers will be needed by 2026.

"The knowledge I have gained from ECU has been a fantastic foundation for me in the workforce," Soumita said.

"There have been instances where I have needed to explain concepts such as phishing, as well as understanding what a specific malware can do and how it is stored within an attachment of any email, all topics I was taught in my data security course."

World-class facilities at your fingertips

ECU is home to some of WA's top STEM training facilities, including industry-grade engineering laboratories, and a five-level Science Building and Security Operations Centre (SOC).

The iconic Science Building is equipped with four superlabs and hosts cutting-edge AV technology in a fully integrated space.

ECU's world class SOC is the first of its kind in an Australian university and one of only a handful worldwide.

Study in five-star quality

Did you know ECU is one of only two public universities in Australia to be awarded a five-star rating by the Good Universities Guide for teaching quality 15 years in a row?

ECU was also rated the top university in Western Australia for undergraduate overall experience, skills development, student support and learning resources.
