Why study at ECU?
About this Major
Prepares students for future success in traversing our media-driven environment.
Studying this major equips students with the ability to ask meaningful questions about issues such as the power and influence of traditional media, the complexities and contradictions of social media and the ubiquity of popular culture. Particularly the focus is on these forces that affect everyday life. It introduces students to a significant range of contemporary theoretical ideas as well as critical approaches used to analyse popular culture, media texts, media technologies, media institutions and their place in the world today. By studying any of the topics covered in the major, students develop a set of critical thinking and analytical skills along with an ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
