Chemistry PhD Unit Set
Why study at ECU?
About this PhD Unit Set
Research in Applied Chemistry at the School of Science is underpinned by cutting edge analytical facilities that can be applied to solve complex problems in the field of biological, environmental, forensic and medical sciences, just to name a few.
Our researchers, through the exciting emergence of metabolomics technology, are examining complex biochemical processes that form the building blocks for life, and determining how this knowledge can be applied to solve issues in both health and the environment. Chemical Sciences research at ECU concentrates on: Environmental radiochemistry; Biogeochemical cycles in the ocean; Sediment dating; Metabolomics; Data Science; Biomarker discovery; Mass spectrometry; and Plant chemistry Specific postgraduate research topics related to the above topics are developed in conjunction with the postgraduate coordinator or potential supervisor. The School has state-of-the-art analytical chemistry facilities, which support fundamental and applied research and provide specialised analytical services to industry and the community. The School also places a high emphasis on collaborations with industry, government agencies and not-for-profit organisations, which enhance the postgraduate experience.
