English prepares each student to enter the world of work as a rigorous reader, a compelling writer, an effective speaker, a critical and creative thinker, and an engaged, respectful world citizen - all skills employers seek. Through the breadth and depth of their reading and writing, students develop a high level of transferable English language and critical thinking skills.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply broad discipline knowledge to a range of literary texts.
  2. Communicate knowledge of literature and theory clearly, coherently and with independence.
  3. Demonstrate autonomy, accountability and judgement for own learning and scholarship.
  4. Discuss global perspectives with respect for cultural diversity, including Indigenous cultural competence.
  5. Think creatively to construct arguments about literary texts.
  6. Think critically to analyse and interpret complex literary and theoretical texts.
  7. Use digital technologies to access, evaluate and synthesise relevant information from multiple sources.
  8. Work collaboratively and demonstrate initiative to implement social, sustainable, and ethical values.
