English prepares students to enter the world of work as a rigorous reader, compelling writer, effective speaker and an engaged, respectful world citizen - all marketable skills of a leader. Students develop a high level of transferable English language skills, along with a thorough understanding of human nature, through the breadth and depth of their reading.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Adapt knowledge and skills in English to interpret literature in diverse contexts.
  2. Apply creative thinking and innovation to generate and evaluate complex ideas and provide sustainable solutions to contemporary challenges.
  3. Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge with depth and understanding of the conceptual frameworks, terminologies and literary theories applicable to English.
  4. Demonstrate initiative and judgement to plan, solve problem and investigate the interaction between literature, society and culture.
  5. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own learning.
  6. Exercise critical thinking and judgement to identify and solve problems of conflicting beliefs and logistical parameters, including the English language.
  7. Identify, review, analyse and synthesise knowledge to examine literature as a product of particular times and places.
