Edith Cowan University (ECU) alumni, staff and community members gathered together to celebrate an epic milestone of 50 years of Early Childhood Education at ECU.
The ECU Alumni Reunion honoured the first cohort who began their studies in 1974 at the Western Australian College of Advanced Education (WACAE), which would later evolve into ECU.
The evening was filled with warmth and nostalgia as attendees reconnected with long-time friends and reflected on their journey since those formative days at the Churchlands Campus. Many shared stories from their years at WACAE, and the career paths that followed, highlighting the growth of Early Childhood Education both at ECU and across Australia.
A highlight of the event was a special address from Professor Caroline Mansfield, Executive Dean of the School of Education, who spoke on the evolving landscape of teacher education.
"ECU has an ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in the field, including new approaches in curriculum and community engagement designed to prepare the next generation of educators," Professor Mansfield said.
Adding to the sense of shared history, members of the original cohort had compiled a survey, inviting guests to share their own reflections on the Early Childhood Education’s evolution and the impact it has had on their careers and lives.
The event closed on a positive note, celebrating the lasting friendships and shared dedication to teaching that have defined this alumni group for half a century. As guests departed, many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect and reflect on their legacy.
With a foundation built on five decades of commitment and community, the Early Childhood Education program at ECU continues to inspire educators, both old and new, toward a future as impactful as its past.
