Edith Cowan University (ECU) student Roisin Wallace-Nash has been named a Scholar of the Order of Australia Association Foundation.

Roisin was one of six Scholars who were announced following a Round Table Conference at Admiralty House in Sydney and was awarded a Scholarship valued at $40,000.

The Scholarship assists a student enrolled in their second year of a Bachelor's course at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) who might otherwise have financial difficulty in proceeding with their studies and thus not achieve their potential for the future benefit of Australia.

The Scholarship will also offer the opportunity of an ongoing mentorship with a member of the Order of Australia who is eminent in the awardee's chosen field of study.

Sharing Australian stories globally

Roisin is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Performing Arts at WAAPA. The Scholarship awarded to Roisin was donated by the Western Australian Branch of the Order of Australia Association.

Ambitious for performing arts in Australia, Roisin aspires to be a prominent performer and deviser of innovative contemporary Australia theatre.

Roisin said that receiving the Scholarship means everything and it will change her life forever.

"It means instant financial relief as I study away from my family and home, it also means I can complete my Masters now, which prior to this scholarship was ruled out for me." Roisin said.

The Scholarship will fund some of the first steps Roisin makes as an artist in the industry as she aims to become a leading theatre-maker and to take her works globally so that Australian voices and stories are heard.

"I'm striving to be able to create theatre for Australia and with Australia, exploring the stories, both of my own and the stories of the people that surround me," Roisin said.

"I hope that one day that theatre can travel globally, starting a conversation between Australia and worldwide about the stories we have to share."
