Mid-career and established visual artists from across Australia are being invited to apply for a major commission at Edith Cowan University's (ECU's) new City Campus public gallery.
Applications are now open for the 2027 Copyright Agency Partnerships (CAP) exhibition, an annual national initiative supporting significant new work by leading contemporary artists in collaboration with prominent galleries and cultural organisations.
The successful artist will present a major exhibition at ECU Gallery from 12 February to 7 May 2027, supported by funding of $80,000, inclusive of artist fees and project development costs. In addition, ECU, in partnership with North Metropolitan TAFE, will provide in-kind support of up to $8,000 for accommodation and access to studio facilities.
The opportunity is based at ECU's public gallery within the University's newly opened City Campus, located in the heart of Perth's cultural precinct. The campus sits alongside some of Western Australia's most significant arts organisations, positioning the exhibiting artist at the centre of the city's creative life.
ECU Manager Art, Culture and Collections Clothilde (Clo) Bullen OAM said ECU was proud to partner with Copyright Agency to strengthen contemporary creative practice in Australia.
"This partnership creates a significant opportunity for an artist to develop and present ambitious new work, with funding support."
Copyright Agency CEO Josephine Johnston said a CAP commission represents a significant and career defining moment for a visual artist.
"This is a rare opportunity to work with ECU Gallery in Perth to create new work alongside an experienced and ambitious curatorial team," Ms Johnston said.
"Copyright Agency through our Cultural Fund has developed an exceptional program for visual artists, partnering with the very best curators and galleries around the country."
"We are delighted to work with such passionate and talented people in creating new exhibition opportunities for Australian artists."
The CAP program, developed through Copyright Agency's Cultural Fund, brings together leading curators and galleries across the country to present major commissions by mid-career and established artists working in all media and mediums.
Eligible applicants will have built an independent body of work over several years or achieved significant recognition within their discipline and sector.
Applications close 1pm AEDT 16 March 2026.
