Edith Cowan University (ECU) is pleased to announce Professor Davina Porock has been awarded the honorary title of Emeritus Professor.

Renowned for her international research specialising in aged care and significant global impact through her pioneering work with palliative and end-of-life care, Professor Porock has been acknowledged for her notable service to the University and School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Professor Porock was ECU's first nursing PhD graduate in 1999. On returning to ECU in 2019 Professor Porock held a VC's Professorial Research Fellowship in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and was the Director of the Centre for Research in Aged Care.

Her research and distinguished academic contributions over almost five decades have focused on living and dying well in residential and home-based aged care, with a particular interest in person-centred practice and recognising dying.

"I am honoured and delighted to receive this very special title," Professor Porock said.

"Although awarded at the end of a career, it acknowledges my intention to keep working as I have much more to do. The appointment gives me continued connection with ECU and the School of Nursing and Midwifery which I value highly, and I hope to continue to be of use in bringing almost five decades of nursing experience and passion to the School, its staff and students.

"It has been a privilege to represent ECU as I've worked internationally, proudly wearing my ECU academic regalia at graduations and events around the world. ECU's values of integrity, respect, rational enquiry, personal excellence and courage, will remain my own as I continue my intellectual life as emeritus professor."

"Professor Porock's appointment as Emeritus Professor recognises an extraordinary international career dedicated to advancing person-centred care and improving the lives of older people," Professor Strickland said.

"It has been a privilege to have her as part of our academic community, her intellectual leadership, generosity as a mentor, and unwavering commitment to excellence have left an enduring mark on our School and the global nursing community."

Professor Porock continues to dedicate her time to enhancing aged care outcomes for individuals, families and communities through her ongoing service as a Visiting Professor, an active member of Palliative Care WA, and her ongoing engagement with aged and end-of-life care providers.
