Cyber crime is on the rise but there are a lot of things people can do to protect themselves and their loved ones.
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month and Edith Cowan University (ECU) is ecstatic to be taking part in encouraging everyone to stay safe and secure online.
As the month comes to a finish, ECU and CyberWest Hub are delivering Cyber Security Awareness Week (23 – 27 October 2023).
Cyber Security Awareness Week is all about educating and informing people on ways to keep themselves, their loved ones, and businesses safe online, no matter who or where you are.
CyberWest Hub will partner with ECU cyber experts to deliver a range of events over the week with workshops and talks covering cyber safety for seniors, cyber resilience, proactive data protection, and more.
CyberWest Hub Director, Cecily Rawlinson said knowing how to stay safe online is essential for everyone.
"Cyber Security Awareness Week is an opportunity to create buzz and interest around cyber security," she said.
"Cyber crime is on the rise, and it can feel overwhelming at times, but there are a lot of things people can do and we are passionate about helping them learn."
Events happening throughout the week include:
- Indo Pacific Space and Earth Conference: Cecily Rawlinson will be hosting the panel talk, 'Cyber and resilience: securing the future across diverse sectors', delving into a pivotal discussion on the paramount importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding critical infrastructure across diver sectors.
- Scams & Scones – cyber safety education: Seniors are invited to this free cyber-safety workshop to learn how to identify and prevent scams online.
- Your path to proactive protection: Learn about proactive data protection and get actionable strategies for handling and understanding your business and clients' data.
- Lunch n Learn: Is your business cyber resilient?: Be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance your organisation's resilience against cyber-attacks at this workshop.
- Cyber Risk Meetup – Securing the future: at this panel session our experts will discuss ways organisations can use cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Remote Operations, Blockchain to stay secure.
- Pilbara Innovation Exchange: this conference aims to build the knowledge, skills and industry connections essential to resilient business growth for businesses operating in the Pilbara.
The team are also preparing for the 2024 CyberWest Summit, and there will be an opportunity to find out more at the week's events.
