Edith Cowan University (ECU) researcher Dr Benjamin Parmenter has been named among 67 leading Australian researchers to receive funding from the Heart Foundation, as part of a $13.7 million investment to drive discoveries in cardiovascular research.
The funded projects span 23 research institutes nationwide, supporting breakthroughs in the prevention, treatment and care of people living with heart disease.
Dr Parmenter has been awarded funding under the Postdoctoral Fellowship programme, which is designed to support early career researchers who are emerging as Australia's next generation of leaders in cardiovascular research.
Dr Parmenter's work on dietary flavonoids will contribute to this vital effort, strengthening ECU's role in advancing health research with real-world impact.
"It's an incredible honour to receive this support from the Heart Foundation," Dr Parmenter said.
"This funding will allow me to deepen our understanding of how different types of flavonoids work together to influence heart health, and how we can harness these compounds to help prevent cardiovascular disease. I'm excited to continue this work as part of ECU's growing contribution to improving health outcomes through innovative research."
Dr Anna Calkin, National Manager Research at the Heart Foundation, said the research grants demonstrated the Foundation's long-standing commitment to backing world-class research.
"Research is the key to saving more lives from heart disease. By supporting the next generation of discoveries, we are helping people to live longer, healthier lives," Dr Calkin said.
