The Racism@Uni survey invites university students and staff from across the country to share their experiences of racism in both physical and online university environments.
ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Clare Pollock said the University welcomed the opportunity to be involved in such an important national initiative.
"ECU is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for everyone in our community. This survey is an opportunity to listen and learn. By encouraging our students and staff to share their experiences, we hope to gain valuable insights that will help us continue to build a welcoming and respectful University for all," Professor Pollock said.
"We encourage the ECU community to take part, whether or not they have personally experienced or witnessed racism. Every perspective is important."
From today, all current ECU staff and students aged 18 and over will receive an email invitation with a unique survey link. The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete, is entirely anonymous and confidential, and is open until 14 September.
Participants will also have the chance to go into a draw to win one of 50 gift vouchers.
The Racism@Uni survey forms part of a national study commissioned by the Commonwealth Department of Education. Findings will help inform recommendations to the Australian Government and universities to support more inclusive and equitable university communities.
More information about the study is on the Australian Human Rights Commission Racism@Uni website or on ECU Racism@Uni Survey page.
