Edith Cowan University's (ECU's) Mount Lawley Campus will be celebrated in a new exhibition, Through the Lens: A Photomedia Record of the ECU Mount Lawley Campus, showcasing the creative perspectives of Photomedia alumni and current students.
Running from 3–11 September 2025 at Spectrum Project Space, ECU Mount Lawley Campus, the exhibition honours three decades of the Photomedia major and the rich history of the campus (1970–2025) ahead of ECU's historic move to its new city location, opening in February 2026.
Curated by Professor of Visual and Cultural Studies Panizza Allmark and Dr Duncan Barnes, the exhibition is the result of an open call to ECU's Photomedia community to share their images documenting and interpreting the campus's architecture, natural environment, and creative energy through photography.
"This is more than an exhibition — it's a visual time capsule," Professor Allmark said.
"Our alumni, from across three decades, and our current students have created artistic, insightful and deeply personal interpretations of the Mount Lawley Campus. They've preserved the spirit of a space that has shaped generations of creative and inquiring minds."

The works were selected by an international panel of acclaimed photographers, including Jerome Jehel (Paris, France) and Associate Professor Oh Soon Hwa (Singapore). Visitors can expect to see a diverse mix of colour and black-and-white images that range from striking architectural compositions to evocative captures of the campus's gardens and community spaces.
Notable alumni contributing to the exhibition include Dr Talhy Stotzer, Dr Mike Grey and Dr Daniel Nevin, who have completed photography-based PhDs at ECU.
Professor Allmark said the exhibition is also about connection and legacy.
"By inviting our esteemed Photomedia alumni and current students to tell the campus's story, we're building a bridge between the past, present and future of ECU. This is a shared narrative that belongs to everyone who has walked these halls or created in these studios."
To inspire participation and engagement, three awards will be presented:
- Overall Winner – $4,000
- Future Talent Award – $4,000 (sponsored by Arts National)
- People’s Choice Award – $1,000, decided by public vote
"The People's Choice Award in particular is a chance for the wider community to be part of the celebration and to show which images resonate most with them," Professor Allmark said.
