The State Government has released the final ECU Mount Lawley Redevelopment Master Plan, confirming a long-term blueprint to transform the centrally located precinct into a connected, sustainable urban community.

Announced on 17 February, the plan outlines the delivery of up to 1,100 new homes and a proposed Creative Industries hub, with more than 15 percent of the site to be dedicated to public open space.

The redevelopment will create a walkable, green neighbourhood integrating diverse housing, quality open space and new opportunities for education, arts and community use, including local retail. A site has also been identified for a new urban primary school, with planning and design led by the Department of Education.

The ECU Mount Lawley Redevelopment Master Plan retains and upgrades key buildings, including the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, the Library and Administration buildings, positioning them for future arts, cultural, youth and education use.

The State Government has committed $500,000 to progress a business case for a Creative Industries Hub within the upgraded WAAPA, Library and Administration buildings. The hub would accommodate performance, rehearsal, production and office spaces for not-for-profit organisations, commercial creative enterprises and emerging artists, supporting collaboration and new employment pathways.

The business case will further examine partnership opportunities with Mount Lawley Senior High School to expand access to specialist facilities and strengthen development pathways for students in the school's Specialist Visual and Performing Arts Program.

Creative Industries Minister Hon. Simone McGurk said the proposed hub represents a direct investment in Western Australia's creative economy.

"The Creative Industries Hub is an investment in WA's creative future, helping attract and retain creative talent, create new jobs, and help our creative businesses to flourish."

"Strengthening our creative sector helps drive economic diversification and deliver cultural, social and economic benefits for all Western Australians," she said.
