ECU Professor elected to prestigious position

Professor Zora Singh from ECU's School of Science has been elected to the prestigious position of Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, travelling to India to accept the international honour.

ECU School of Science Professor Zora Singh was presented with prestigious honour at an official ceremony held during the Foundation Day and Annual General Body Meeting held on 4-5 June 2025 at National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi, India.

Professor Zora Singh is Vice-Chair Division Tropical and Subtropical Fruit and Nuts and was already a Fellow of the American Society for Horticultural Science and the Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences, and Foundation Professor Horticultural Science.

Professor Singh explained that he felt very pleased and honoured to have been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which focuses on the broad field of agricultural sciences including crop husbandry, Horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, agro-forestry and the interface between agriculture and agro-industry.

"The academy is a vibrant national-level body devoted to agricultural sciences. The Fellows of the Academy are recognised for their outstanding contributions to science and include distinguished personalities in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sciences, both from India and abroad," said Professor Singh.

The official ceremony was held at the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences in New Delhi with guests from all over the world. Guests included members of ECU and University of Massachusetts Amherst, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Michigan State University, USA, and Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics Crop Plant, Germany, members of Academy of Science of South Africa, with other international leaders in agricultural science research and Indian leaders in agricultural science research.

Professor Singh also presented an overview paper, "Postharvest Horticulture Safeguarding Global Food and Nutritional Security" during the Foundation Day and Annual General Body Meeting of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

"Attending the official ceremony and celebration gave me a great opportunity to meet distinguished scientists from India, USA, Germany and South Africa and form connections with colleagues working across similar field areas and hear about break throughs and discuss potential partnerships."
