Where on earth can you live in Perth?

If you're moving to Perth to study, you have all kinds of options – from living on a university campus to sharing a house with new friends or even staying with a family.

Moving to a new city – especially if you're coming from overseas – is both exciting and a little scary.

If that city happens to be Perth, the capital of Western Australia, there's nothing to be scared of.

People will make you feel welcome here.

And it's one of the most liveable and safer cities in the world, according to the Economist's annual global survey.

Before you leave your current home you should think about what you can afford and then explore your options for accommodation during your time here as a student.

How do you want to live?

If you're getting ready to study at university, you'll probably be tempted to live somewhere close to the campus.

Student accommodation is a great way to make new friends when you first arrive from another country.

It will also save you loads of travel time and expense.

And you'll never be late for lectures!

ECU's campuses at Joondalup and Mount Lawley have accommodation for students, with excellent facilities and different options to choose from, depending on your budget.

Living in the community

Of course, you might prefer to live away from where you're studying and get a better feel for the city and its 'locals'.

Renting a unit or a house can be expensive in Perth or any Australian capital city.

You'll find it more affordable to share in the costs with others, maybe even students like yourself.

You can also consider renting a room. Students and families often rent out furnished spare rooms in their houses and apartments.

This can be a great way to live independently without the expense of renting on your own.

Search for rooms for rent in Perth through ECU Accommodation, Flatmates.com.au or Student.com.

You can also book an appointment with an ECU Housing Advice Officer via the student portal.

Homestay

Another way to immerse yourself into the Australian way of life is by living in a private home with a local family.

You'll have a chance to be involved in daily life, learn our culture and customs, and of course enjoy the company of friendly and welcoming people.

It's also a great way to learn conversational English if it's not your first language.

Visit the home stay network page for more information.

Whichever option you choose, we hope you enjoy living here!
