WAAPA graduates honoured at national awards

Three of WAAPA's star graduates have been honoured at the annual Helpmann Awards, recognising distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia's vibrant performing arts industry.

Congratulations to Eddie Perfect, Tim Minchin and Ewen Leslie for their outstanding achievements.

2001 Musical Theatre graduate Eddie Perfect received the award for Best New Australian Work for his production, Shane Warne The Musical.

Since graduating, Eddie has established himself as an actor, writer, comedian, composer and musical director with credits including Kath and Kim, Keating! The Musical and the Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala.

Tim Minchin was named Best Comedy Performer for his production, Tim Minchin Ready for This? Tim graduated from WAAPA in 1998 with a Diploma in Music and has since built a strong reputation as a talented musician, actor, comedian and writer.

Ewen Leslie received Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Play for his performance as Henry V, opposite Cate Blanchett, in the Sydney Theatre Company production War of the Roses.

Ewen graduated with an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts (Acting) in 2000 and has since starred in a number of Australian theatre and film productions.

Several WAAPA graduates are also working on the Australian production of Wicked, named Best Musical at the awards.

The Helpmann Awards were held on Monday, 27 July at the Sydney Opera House Theatre.
