New local television program, Greenfingers – the secrets to gardening success is set to feature ECU and our award winning water wise strategies in their upcoming program, which screens on Sunday, 5 June.

The latest gardening program from Guru Productions, Greenfingers is designed to provide viewers with advice and information on gardening practices from some of the state’s top horticulturists.

Hosted by Sue McDougall, the segment focuses on ECU’s commitment to environmental sustainability, highlighting practices such as utilising bore water to maintain the University grounds and using water-efficient pop up sprinklers to reduce water usage.

The segment also looks at ECU’s commitment to recycling the water produced by air conditioning cooling towers. ECU currently recycles 4 million litres of water produced from the air-conditioning system, which is then used on University grounds.

Acting Director of ECU’s Facilities and Services team, Mr Russell Noble is excited to see ECU’s commitment to sustainability recognised by the local community.

“ECU utilises a number of different water wise strategies across all campuses, and is pleased to report water savings of around 12 per cent over the last five years when compared to the rise in student numbers.”

“We are really excited to be profiled by Greenfingers, as they recognise and celebrate our waterwise commitment, and the different strategies we use to ensure our grounds remain beautiful, without negatively impacting our environment.”

The ECU Greenfingers segment is set to screen on Sunday, 5 June on Channel 7, Perth. For more information on the show visit the Greenfingers Facebook page.
