Sport, wine and international students are three key ways Western Australia can maximise its appeal to hundreds of millions of Chinese tourists according to ECU's Professor Sam Huang.

Professor Huang's research is examining the best ways for Western Australia to tap into China's booming tourist market.

He already has a number of lessons for local tourism operators aiming at the Chinese market including visiting China themselves and harnessing the talent already in Western Australia in the form of Chinese international students studying in the state.

He believes there is huge potential for WA industries to attract tourists from China and is working with the local industry to identify, particularly in the areas of gourmet food, wine, AFL and international students as a ways into the market.
