Graduate Certificate in Aviation Management

The Graduate Certificate in Aviation Management provides a flexible entry point into postgraduate aviation studies for professionals seeking to enhance their managerial capability in a rapidly evolving sector. Designed for those working in operational, supervisory, or technical aviation roles, the course develops foundational knowledge in leadership, organisational behaviour, safety management, and strategic decision making.
Students gain an applied understanding of contemporary aviation challenges, including sustainability, regulatory change, digital transformation, and workforce development. The course is also a pathway to the Master of Aviation Management for applicants without a cognate bachelor’s degree, providing a scaffolded transition to advanced postgraduate study.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply aviation management theories and practices to address challenges in global aviation contexts, including planning and sustainability.
  2. Compose communication effectively, collaboratively, and professionally with diverse stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, using written, oral, and digital communication skills in diverse environments.
  3. Apply evidence-based solutions to aviation problems, integrating interdisciplinary knowledge.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 6)

  • Bachelor degree; or
  • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to have the following: Bachelor's degree, or Three years work experience at a supervisory or management level position^, or 500 hours of total flight time ^Relevant work experience constitutes Senior/Managerial positions to be approved by the Course Coordinator.

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level

This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate Award.

Course Structure

This is a Programmatic Learning course. This Course uses a mix of Learning Units and Assessment Units which all connect together.

Students will collect evidence of learning in a digital portfolio that charts their course journey, and can be used as a showcase to employers.
