Edith Cowan University (ECU) Professor Zora Singh has been honoured with election as a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), joining an elite global network of researchers recognised for advancing scientific excellence and tackling some of the world's most pressing challenges.
TWAS is a global organisation dedicated to advancing scientific excellence and building research capacity in developing countries. Established in 1983 under the leadership of Nobel laureate Abdus Salam, TWAS supports scientists in the Global South to address critical challenges such as hunger, disease and poverty through science-based solutions.
Headquartered in Trieste, Italy, the Academy promotes collaboration between researchers across the Global South and with international partners, recognising outstanding scientific achievement and fostering the next generation of innovators.
"This recognition is a significant honour for me, and I am truly grateful to the TWAS Council for this acknowledgment," Professor Singh said.
Election to Fellowship is reserved for scientists whose contributions meet internationally accepted standards of excellence. Candidates working in developed countries must also have demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing science in developing nations.
World's most accomplished scientists
Since its inception, TWAS has elected some 1,400 fellows, including some of the world's most accomplished scientists and engineers, representing 112 countries. Thirteen of these elected fellows are Nobel laureates.
"I am humbled to join this distinguished global network of scientists and look forward to contributing further to TWAS's mission of supporting sustainable development through science," Professor Singh said.
