The 2024 Research Magazine has taken a deep dive into the Australian research landscape, revealing Edith Cowan University (ECU) and its researchers are among the best in the nation.

Compiled by The Australian and research analytics firm League of Scholars, the 2024 Research Magazine identifies the top researchers and research institutions across the country in 250 fields.

ECU's outstanding work in the field of Drama & Theatre Arts has been recognised with the University named as the top leading research institute, alongside Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellow Dr Luke Hopper who topped the field as leading researcher.

It's the second consecutive year that Dr Hopper has been recognised as the top leading researcher in the field of Drama & Theatre Arts.

"It is wonderful to have my work acknowledged, as well as ECU being recognised for the leading University in the field," Dr Hopper said.

"I think this work has been achieved through many collaborations across disciplines with researchers who are passionate about contributing to the arts."

Dr Hopper's research focuses on performance enhancement and injury prevention for performing artists including dance science, performing arts health, biomechanics, motor control and virtual reality.

"I am motivated to produce quality research that can support artists to achieve long and prosperous careers." Dr Hopper said.

The 2024 Research Magazine also recognised two internationally acclaimed ECU experts as leading researchers within their fields.

Professor Stefan Iglauer from ECU's School of Engineering was named as the leading researcher in the field of Dispersion Chemistry and Director of Security Research Institute, Professor Helge Janicke was awarded the top researcher in the field of Computer Security & Cryptography.

In its sixth year, the Research Magazine's methodology uses an impact score to rate researchers and institutions in each field, taking into account both the quality of the research (by examining only top journals in each field) and the impact of the research (judged by the number of citations).
