ECU Professor Caroline Finch appointed President and Chair of Cancer Council WA

Edith Cowan University (ECU) is delighted to announce the appointment of Deputy Vice – Chancellor (Research), Professor Caroline Finch as President and Chair of the Cancer Council WA.

Professor Finch is a globally recognised expert in public health, injury prevention and research translation, with decades of experience across academic, health and policy sectors.

This prestigious position further highlights the excellence of Professor Finch's work both as a highly successful leader and public health researcher.

Professor Finch's legacy of impactful work has shaped the future and policies of science, technology, defence, health and sports domains, with over 800 research-related publications and $24M in funding generated.

Professor Finch's appointment and the future impact of her leadership has been lauded by the Cancer Council WA.

"Her expertise in public health, commitment to evidence-based policy, and proven leadership will be invaluable as we continue our mission to reduce the impact of cancer for all West Australians." CEO Ashley Reid said.

Professor Finch will step down from her DVC Research role at the end of the year, after leading a remarkable transformation in ECU's research standing since 2018. She spearheaded the 2019 Citations Strategy, lifting ECU's global research profile, and championed initiatives that support researcher recognition, collaboration and growth.

Professor Finch will continue her research career at ECU as a Vice-Chancellor's Professorial Research Fellow in the School of Science from 2026. She remains one of Australia's top-ranked scientists in medicine, injury prevention and sports medicine.

ECU congratulates Professor Finch on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to her continued leadership and contributions to public health research, advocacy and education.
