Master of Nursing Studies

This course aims to create curious, critically reflective, and globally competent nurse leaders who are equipped to advance healthcare through clinical excellence, research-informed and innovative practices. Our graduates will adapt to diverse and evolving healthcare landscapes,contribute to the improvement of healthcare systems,shaping the future of nursing through sustainable and human-centred solutions,empowered by the latest advancements in technology. This vision is supported by flexible, student-centred pedagogies that emphasise experiential, reflective, and technology-enhanced learning tailored to the needs of students. This course does not lead to registration to practice as a nurse in Australia.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply advanced professional knowledge and clinical reasoning to provide safe, evidence-informed, person-centred, care through collaborative practice and inclusive care coordination across diverse and complex healthcare contexts.
  2. Advocate for a culturally responsive and globally conscious approach to nursing leadership that is committed to health equity, and social justice in diverse care contexts.
  3. Engage with evidence, ethics, and critical inquiry to evaluate and enhance healthcare practice, including the responsible use of digital health and emerging technologies to drive innovation and positive change.
  4. Critically appraise and role model leadership and collaboration within interprofessional teams, demonstrating advanced communication, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to lifelong professional development of self and others.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to have a Bachelor degree in nursing. Applicants with equivalent prior learning must have two years full-time (or equivalent) post registration professional practice, and submit a current curriculum vitae.

Course Structure

This is a Programmatic Learning course. This Course uses a mix of Learning Units and Assessment Units which all connect together.

  • Learning Units are where students develop their knowledge, skills, and capabilities through regular activities and feedback.
  • Assessment Units are where students integrate, apply and demonstrate that learning.

Students will collect evidence of learning in a digital portfolio that charts their course journey, and can be used as a showcase to employers.
