Prepares students to take on the challenges of teaching home economics in a range of subject areas across Years 7 to 12.
Students receive specialised instruction in both the theory and practical aspects relating to food science and technology, hospitality, textiles, and family and community studies. The specialisation content is closely aligned to the requirements of the Australian Curriculum and to WACE syllabus and examination requirements, and covers school curricula, teaching strategies and the development and assessment of teaching programs.
Special entry requirements
All applicants are required to complete a relevant degree (three years of degree level study comprising at least 6 units with no more than two at first-year level and no fewer than two units at third-year level) including theoretical studies and practical applications in food preparation, technology and science, as well as hospitality, clothing and textiles and family studies. Alternatively applicants can complete at least two years (4 units) of degree level study with at least two units at level 2 or above in the previously mentioned areas, if they intend to undertake this specialisation as their minor area of study.
