Environmental management

The Edith Cowan University Sustainability Policy sets the strategic scope of the University‚Äôs commitment to environmental sustainability.

The policy covers the appropriate management of the organisation and its operations, the engagement of students and staff in principles and applications of sustainability and the engagement of and collaboration with the broader community.

Policies and Committees

Our commitment towards environmental sustainability is driven by the following policies, committees and documents;

Environmental Management System

The Facilities and Services Centre has developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) to manage the environmental impacts of our business on the environment.

The EMS meets international standards under ISO/NZS 14001 and focuses on the following programs:

  • Energy
  • Water
  • Waste and recycling
  • Transport
  • South West Bushfire Risk Management Plan
  • Management of Carnaby's Black Cockatoo Breeding Sites on Joondalup Campus

ECU uses a live environmental data monitoring system to obtain accurate and up-to-date information on our energy usage, water consumption and waste production.
