The Nature of Wanting: Student Exhibition

Monday, 04 April 2016

Tags:

The Nature of Wanting a solo exhibition by ECU Visual Arts student and New Colombo Plan Scholarship Winner Harrison See will open this Sunday, 10 April at STUDIO 281 in Maylands. This original body of work will explore the notion of the figure as a machine, as it searches for wants and needs to sustain itself.

The show, to be opened by ECU lecturer and coordinator of painting Gregory Pryor, will feature 15 original painting using the oil on plywood technique as well as a single cast concrete sculpture. Harrison describes the inspiration for this show as coming from his love of surrealism, sci-fi and fantasy movies, however, it more deeply explores the wastefulness of humans in their effort to advance civilization. The paintings attempt to discuss humanity’s effects on natural and unnatural resources through both the representation and suggestion of the human figure.

This never before seen body of work will be on display at the newly renovated STUDIO 281 for the remainder of the month.
