Stephen Mullarkey

'My primary job is being a dad'

Stephen's career at ECU started in 2008 and since that time he has enjoyed the flexibility of working for an organisation that values work and life balance. He is now the proud father of three daughters. His life revolves around the family and local community he lives in, which includes ECU.

'The things I like most about working at ECU are the shared purpose - working together for positive outcomes, and the locations and amenities that are close to my home. When I first started working here my wife was about to have our first daughter, I was able to take partner leave for a short while straight after the birth, and used carers leave when needed to support my wife. Since then the paid leave available for staff who have babies has changed for the better, and I was able to access paid partner leave when my two other daughters were born. I use the flexibility on offer at ECU to support and juggle family commitments with my wife. Attending assemblies and school outings is possible by catching up on work at home if needed, or I will take leave for school holidays, or if the kids are sick.

ECU has also supported me in broader study. I was successful in receiving funds from the Professional Career Development Fund which helped me enormously in completing my MBA here at ECU. My wife is currently studying education at ECU, and my children all regularly visit the campus here at Joondalup. So you could say my life is embedded here at ECU!'
