Foetal monitoring via mobile phone

This project involved research into the development of a mobile phone based solution that interfaces the phone with an inexpensive portable doppler foetal heart rate (FHR) monitor. The system allows the mother to monitor FHR, foetal activity (FA) and uterine contractions remotely, and send the monitored data to an urban or regional centre for analysis by experts. The first prototype system is currently undergoing hospital trials which have so far been successful and well received by both expectant mothers and clinicians.

Researchers in collaboration with industry partners are investigating techniques to robustly process the data associated with foetal heart rate and foetal activities on mobile phones.
