Samar Lette receiving the Talis prize, presented by Andrew Mack.
On a bright and sunny afternoon of Friday, March 1, 2024, 82 staff, students, and guests gathered to celebrate the remarkable achievements of students in the School of Science at Joondalup Resort. During this special occasion, 31 prize winners were announced, and 33 students were honored by being added to the Executive Dean’s List for 2023 (representing the top 5% of graduating students). Our MC, Professor Elizabeth Watkin, kicked off the event with an opening speech delivered by Jenna Hawkey from Bankwest.
This year’s celebration held particular significance for several reasons. We welcomed our new Executive Dean, Professor Marnie Campbell, to the school—a momentous first day indeed. Additionally, Dr. Floyd Holmes, an ECU alumnus for both undergraduate and PhD studies, served as one of the presenters for the Phoenix Environmental Conservation and Wildlife Prize. Another notable recipient was Samara Lette, daughter of Emily Lette, who is also an ECU alumna (both undergraduate and Masters by research). Emily herself was a prize winner for the school.
We applauded students who received multiple prizes, including Jack Henry (2 awards), Natalia Maslova (2 awards), and Daniella Surya (3 awards and inclusion in the Executive Dean’s List).
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the generous prize donors who continue to support the students in the school. Lastly, a big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this memorable event!
