Scholarships, Fellowships and Other Funding Opportunities

In addition to our government funding (New Colombo Plan, Endeavour Mobility grants, OS-HELP loans see link: Australian Government Funding), there are also a number of other funding opportunities.

New Colombo Plan Scholarships

Details: The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake Internships in the region. The scholarship provides numerous benefits including a travel allowance, an establishment allowance, and a monthly stipend. Promotion and an ‘Expression of Interest’ form will be available from the ECU scholarship website.

Endeavour Scholarships & Fellowships

Details: The Australia Awards–Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are the Australian Government’s competitive, merit-based scholarships and fellowships providing opportunities for Australians to undertake study, research or professional development overseas and for overseas citizens to do the same in Australia.

International Scholarships (Various)

Details: In addition to the Endeavour Awards, there are a number of other scholarships which enable Australians to study overseas. There are also scholarships sponsored by foreign governments and other international organisations.

Gerald Frank Scholarship

Details: The Gerald Frank Brown scholarship has been established by the Government of Western Australia in cooperation with the universities of WA to financially assist high-achieving European students to study in Western Australia through a formal exchange program (inbound). The scholarship funds also provide for Western Australian university students to participate in a student exchange program with universities in the European Economic Community (outbound). The scholarship offers a one-time payment of $2,000.

Chinese Government Scholarship -Bilateral Program (China Scholarship Council)

Details: The Education Office of the Chinese Embassy invites applications for their Chinese Government Scholarship-Bilateral Program. Australian nationals studying with universities and colleges in ACT, SA, WA and NT are welcome to apply for the scholarship.

Bilateral Program includes a full or partial scholarship established by Ministry of Education in accordance with educational exchange agreements or consensus between Chinese government and governments of other countries, institutions, universities or international organizations.

Emirates Scholarships

Details: In conjunction with the Emirates Group the University is offering the opportunity to undertake unpaid work placements with Emirates in Dubai, UAE, in 2017 and a one off payment of $5,000. The Emirates work placements will give ECU students the opportunity to obtain practical training and experience related to their discipline of study in one of the fastest growing cities in the world as well as gaining many personal, academic and professional advantages and the chance to make important industry contacts. In addition to the scholarship payment by ECU, Emirates will cover return airfares and contribute towards living expenses.

Dean’s Travel Scholarship (ECU)

Details: The Dean’s Travel Scholarship for the School of Arts and Humanities supports students with a one-off payment of $2,500 to undertake national or international travel that will benefit or advance their studies. This travel may include such activities as voluntary work experience, conferences, study tours and academic study or exchange programs. The Scholarship is open to undergraduate students enrolled in their 3rd year within the School of Arts and Humanities at ECU.

King & Amy O’Malley Trust Scholarships

Details: King & Amy O’Malley Trust Scholarships are annual undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships for students enrolled in or applying for tertiary Home Economics or related areas (e.g. Family Studies, Consumer Science, Food and Nutrition or Teacher education in these fields). There are 30 scholarships available each year and since 1986 when the scholarship was first awarded there have been hundreds of successful scholars who have benefited from the scholarship and been successful in their careers in the field. The scholarship offers a payment of $7,500 for postgraduate students, and $5,000 for undergraduates.

Westpac Social Change Fellowship

Details: The Fellowship is designed to give recipients time and space to develop the skills, knowledge and networks they will need to bring their idea to life. This may involve travel study tours, work experience, research or building stronger connections that will directly enhance their ability to lead their project.

If your application is successful you will receive up to $50,000. This funding will help you embark on your own experiential education, over a maximum six month period.

Fulbright Scholarships

Details: The Australian-American Fulbright Commission promotes and supports educational and cultural exchange between Australia and America. Fulbright Scholarships are available to Australian citizens from all fields to undertake research or study in the United States. A number of scholarships are available depending on your career stage.

Asia Exchange Scholarships

Details: Asia Exchange (AE) awards scholarships for students who participate in study abroad semesters via Asia Exchange at their host universities in China, Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea. The aim of the scholarships is to increase internationalization and streamline student mobility, encouraging more students to study abroad in Asia. Scholarships are awarded twice a year for up to 5 students and are worth €500 each.

Onassis Foundation

Details: In 1995 the Foundation established an annual program of grants and scholarships for research, study and artistic endeavour within Greece. The educational program is intended exclusively for non-Greeks: members of national academies, university professors of all levels, PhD holders, post-doctorate researchers and doctoral candidates. Exceptionally and on a case-by-case basis, the program may accept Greeks of the Diaspora, second generation Greeks, and Greeks who permanently reside abroad and have been studying or have been employed in foreign Universities for over 10 or 15 years, depending on the type of scholarship.

IKY – Foreign Nationals Scholarships

Details: The State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), since 1964, grants scholarships for postgraduate or postdoctoral studies in Greece, as well as scholarships for the attendance of the Modern Greek Language and Culture. The programmes for postgraduate/postdoctoral studies are announced in January or February of each year, and the scholarships are offered to nationals (foreigners or of Greek origin).
