Before you graduate

As a soon-to-be-graduate, you can expect to start hearing from us about graduation ceremonies.

There are some things you'll need to check, and if necessary action, in the lead-up to your big day.

To be sure that you've completed your course by the cut-off date, go to the Course Details and Progress page on SIMO.

If your record isn't listed as 'completed' in time for your ceremony, you won't be eligible to attend.

If your course isn't showing as completed, please contact our Student Hub.

If you have any outstanding fees or Library fines you'll not be eligible to graduate and become course 'complete'.

Speak to Library staff if you're returning items to ensure all encumbrances and fines are removed from your record.

For all other fee enquiries, contact the Fees office:
Telephone: (+61 8) 6304 3535
Email: student.fees@ecu.edu.au

If you and your family are planning to attend the graduation ceremony you'll require a VISA request letter from us. You will need to go to our online payment portal to request a letter. There is a $20.00 charge for this specific letter.

For more information, please contact the Student Hub.

Make sure we have the right information for you on SIMO, including your name, student email address and your postal address.

We'll send information about your graduation via your student email address, so please check your inbox regularly.

Alternatively, you can forward your student emails to another address.

We'll also post letters of course completion and statements of academic transcripts to the address listed on your student record in SIMO.

So if you've recently moved house, please update SIMO now!

Your testamur is the official piece of paper – or parchment – you'll receive at your graduation ceremony. Your name and course is printed on it as it appears on your Statement of Academic Record. If you need to change your name, or check the spelling, you can find out how on our Changing your details web page.

When responding to your invitation you'll be asked for the correct pronunciation of your name. This is because when you're called to the stage during the ceremony to receive your degree, it may be by someone who doesn't know you.

Please provide the pronunciation of your full name as you would like it to be read. For example:

  • Aundraea Pereira = On-Dre-Ya Per-Ray-Ra
  • Yuqian Wu = Woo You-Tsee-An

Also, if it's the custom in your country to write your name in a different sequence, for example Chan, Ping Ping, and you wish your name to appear like this on your testamur, please amend your name order on your invitation response.
