Regalia, caps and gowns for graduation day

Academic regalia is the impressive hat and gown you see in everyone's graduation photos.

It's made up of a black gown, a colour sash that relates to your degree, and a mortarboard (square hat).

It's compulsory for all graduates to wear academic regalia applicable to the degree they're being awarded.

You're also expected to wear business attire as part of your outfit. You don't want to look half-dressed!

How do I wear my regalia?

With pride! But if you need some help dressing in your regalia, there'll be a ‘Dress me' station at your graduation ceremony.

It opens two hours before the ceremony and staff will be able to assist you there. You can also ask one of the team when you collect your regalia.

Check out our How to Wear Your Graduation Regalia video.

Ordering your regalia

Once you accept your invitation, you can order your regalia from our supplier, GFP Graduations. Just select ECU as your university and off you go!

Please beware of ordering cheaper regalia from other suppliers. The quality is often poor, the colours don’t always match our ECU colours, and magnets (for keeping them on your shoulders) are rarely included.

Collecting your regalia

You'll be asked to collect your regalia before your graduation ceremony, see the collection days and times below.
